Why is India So Depressed?
India is the most depressed country in the world. one in seven Indians have suffered from depression. We celebrate World mental health day on 10th of October. The statements released by WHO based on their study that India is the most depressed country in the world. One in seven Indians have suffered from depression and when was this between 1990 to 2017 in the period of 27 years excluding the last three years which have been terrible for the entire country after the demonetization, after the GST and now thanks to Covid.
The number of people who are suffering from depression, mental illness is just increasing at an alarming rate. But like everything else we are sleeping peacefully ignoring ambivalent to the fact that we are the most depressed people in this world. Every single person who suffers a mental illness, be it a neurological illness or anything else has some amount of mental problem, some amount of anxiety, some amount of depression, insomnia, anorexia so many things. This is much more prevalent in our country now the thing which we need to look at is why is it? In the earlier times we used to feel pleased, we have social community, we have a joint family, we have an affectionate society and individuals uphold one another.
From the studies, we know that Indians are the most depressed people yes, it is a fact. There are so many factors responsible for those.
1. Financial reasons
Our Country has huge population and plenty of resources. But these resources are not being distributed proportionately or appropriately.
2. Our society, our culture, our teachings from the time the child is born till the person dies.
We are not able to live. Every time there are constraints by the society, by the parents, by the peers, by everyone else. So basically, we are bound, we are not free, we are shackled.
So, if we have to live happily, if we have to come out of the depression, one greatest thing we have to do is unshackle ourselves from all kinds of norms, from all kinds of things that bind us, which sabotage our creativity. We need to come out and live a life that we have always dreamed of. Looking at the current scenario especially for this the entire year 2020. This year started off and then immediately we had a huge disaster, set back because of Covid.
So many people fought bravely saving so many lives and they lost their own. There are so many people who lost their dear ones. There has been a loss of in every kind, people have shut down their establishments, people have lost their sources of income and revenue. so, this has led to a much steeper increase in the rate of depression. If we look at the reports, they are so scary so, this situation is very grim and this is increasing the rate of depression, this is increasing the fear, this is increasing the anxiety.
So, what do we do now at this stage? Do we just look at the reports read and live with this? No! my suggestion would be to everyone how to beat depression. Let me try to cover this topic globally.
Why do Indians suffer from depression so much? There are a few simple tips that can be followed to beat depression.
1. Live your life, live your life today, the past has gone.
Be happy 🙂
You cannot run back; you cannot reverse and alter your past. The future is unknown and you have no clue as to what is going to occur tomorrow. What you are certain of is only now the present, live in the present. Yes, plan for your future, think good about your future, dream big about your future but do not fret about your future. You can follow the routines of Ayurveda too for a healthy mind. It will help you to improve your mental health.
We have to accept that it is okay to be not okay. Like the burden which the kids have from the parents you know you have to join a professional course, you have to be either a doctor or an engineer or a software guy. No, it is okay to be in some other job, to choose some other profesion. You have to be the topper No; it is okay not to be a topper. You can be the second best; third best and you can still attain what you like to do in your life. Yes, it is okay to have your opinions which are different from your parents. These opinions might be better. This is a phase of evolution, you are evolving.
I would say it is not okay to stay stuck with what was there, what was earlier. There was good for that period, for that era, for that generation things evolve which we call the creative destruction. We destroy something which is not good to create something, which is better and that’s exactly how life is, that is exactly how the evolutions happen, that’s exactly how everything grows. so that is the other point which we need to keep in mind that we have to be happy. There should not be any conflicting between our thought and in our action.
Many parents and society force their children to choose the profession of their choice. Maybe, the person is a creative guy, he wants to be a painter, an artist, a musician, or he just wants to roam around the world, he wants to meet people and see the cultures. It is okay to do all this.
2. Marriage, people have to get married, have to settle down.
Settling down is not only by marriage, but there are also so many things which come to my mind. When I see people suffering from depression because of these, because they are forced to leave and lead a life which they do not agree with.
For example, there is a couple both the man and the woman are not happy, but they said they have been compromising for 17 years. Imagine the amount of creativity they have which is subdued, which is submerged, we have no clue where it has gone. If these people were let to live the way they want to live, if they are happy mentally, they are peaceful mentally, the creativity oozes out. They can do so much extra for the society. They can be of so much use to the society. Forget about depression, you will enjoy every day, you will enjoy every minute, you will enjoy every second of life if you enjoy what you are doing if you enjoy why you are living if you know why you’re living.
Now, so many people tell us that they are on antidepressants, they are on substance abuse, they are they have attempted suicide. They do not know why they are living because they don’t want to live, there is no purpose, there is no goal, everything is lost for the society, lost for the peer pressure, lost for everything else. They have lost their identity.
You should work on your hobbies, do things you love for your creative fulfilment, which would make your life happy and enrich your soul.
I want to express to everyone is live your life the way you want to live. Yes, you will be blamed, I will be blamed for talking such things. You will not be conformist, you might be called a rebel but then you are happy, your creativity is coming out you are able to give so much good to the society at large. Do not be selfish, it is not your own life, if you are able to live remember you owe this to the society. That is exactly what I believe in and that is exactly what I want to do, I want to live my life the way I want to live So that I can make so many more lives happy I can.
The situation, which is there, the entire country, the entire world is suffering from because of the covid, the economic crisis. yes, this is a situation which we cannot do much about but whatever you can compromise with this situation this is what we have. Do not thing think much about which is not in our control. Live your life the way you want to live and benefit the society at large and live happy live for now. This is the moment which you have, relish and cherish it, the next moment you may not be there. Let’s enjoy, let’s be happy.
nice
Thank you
